Use your previous HE study to help you gain an OU qualification
If you were previously studying/completed a qualification at a Further Education College in Scotland, that was at SCQF level 7 or above, it may be eligible for an assessment of credit transfer.
We award credit on the basis of 1 OU credit to 1 SCQF credit. You will need to have a minimum of 30 credits at SCQF level 7 or above to be considered for credit transfer. This is because all of our modules are either 30 or 60 credits, so for that reason we can only award credit in multiples of 30. Please note some of our qualifications only allow credit to be transferred in multiples of 60 due to their structure.
The level the credit will be considered for transfer at is shown below:
SCQF level | OU level |
---|---|
6 or below | Not eligible for credit transfer |
7 | 1 |
8, 9 | 2 |
10 | Considered to be at OU level 3 but can be transferred in place of level 1 or level 2 study |
11 or above | Postgraduate |
You will need to provide your official detailed Record of Education and Training/detailed Record of Attainment from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) that shows the units you completed, the SCQF level and the SCQF credit value of each unit. If your qualification was completed before SCQF credits and levels were used, your detailed Record of Education and Training/detailed Record of Attainment will show unit titles and completion dates.
If you do not have your detailed Record of Education and Training/detailed Record of Attainment, you will need to contact the SQA to obtain this.
Depending on the OU qualification you want to have your credit transferred to, you may also need to provide syllabus information. The syllabus provides a detailed description of each of the units completed.
